#ALDÍATalks: Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney

Thu, 02/14/2019 - 9:27am -- davidm

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney will sit down for an AL DÍA Talk fireside chat with AL DÍA Founder and CEO Hernán Guaracao on the evening of Wednesday, April 17th.

The program will run from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.

Mayor Kenney is currently in the final year of his first term in office. Through his first three years in office, he has spearheaded the controversial soda tax, raised the minimum wage, signed fair workweek legislation into law, launched an emergency response to the city’s opioid crisis, and introduced a plan to reduce violence in the city, among other actions.

Under his watch, Philadelphia has also regained local control of its public schools and expanded access to pre-K. In his re-election announcement video, the mayor made clear that he will be making education a major campaign issue.

So far, just one Democrat has declared a challenge to the mayor in the upcoming primaries, which will be held on May 21st.

We will discuss Mayor Kenney’s re-election bid, his first term in office, and other major issues facing the city today.
