Donald Trump's visit to Philadelphia today is expected to spark protests and demonstrations around the city.

One good reason is that the President signed an executive order on Wednesday to strip federal funds from sanctuary cities like Philadelphia. As far as our city maintains its status as a "4th Amendment" or sanctuary city,-in order to protect illegal immigrants-  the executive order will prevent it from getting access to any federal grants, blocked by the Department of Homeland Security.

City Under Siege: Trump Against Sanctuary Cities

President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to strip federal funds from sanctuary cities. As Philadelphia maintains its status as a "4th Amendment" or sanctuary city, the order will prevent cities such as Philadelphia from getting access to any federal grants, blocked by the Department of Homeland Security.

For the upcoming 2017 season, the Philadelphia Phillies will not only have more new faces but will be a predominantly Latino team.  Last year, the Phillies had 12 players of Latino origin who played throughout the season.

The Opening Day roster could have at least 13 Latinos. That is about 48 percent of the 25-man roster. The percentage of players born outside the United States that are part of the Opening Day roster was 27.5 percent.

Each category of statistics within the Phillies were all led by Latino players:

Este jueves durante el retiro del Partido Republicano en el Lowes Hotel, el Presidente Donald Trump visitará la Ciudad del Amor Fraternal. Este retiro es una sesión estratégica para sustituir y derogar la Ley de Salud Asequible. También planean discutir la reforma de la legislación del código fiscal.

Con el Presidente en la ciudad, hay varias protestas planificadas. El Centro de la Democracia Popular marchará el jueves desde el Thomas Paine Plaza. Marcharán para protestar la derogación Republicana del Obamacare.

This Thursday during the Republican Party retreat at the Lowes Hotel, President Donald Trump will visit the City of Brotherly Love.  This retreat is a strategy session on how to replace and repeal the Affordable Care Act. They are also planning to discuss tax code reform legislation.

With the president in the city, there are multiple protests planned. The Center for Popular Democracy will march on Thursday beginning at Thomas Paine Plaza. They are marching to protest Republicans repealing Obamacare.

En reacción a varias quejas informales sobre racismo en el barrio del centro de la ciudad, incluyendo un vídeo viral del dueño de iCandy utilizando injurias racistas en repetidas ocasiones, la Comisión de Relaciones Humanas de Filadelfia (PCHR por sus siglas en inglés) la publicado el reporte “Ejecución del Informe Monitor: En Referencia al Racismo y la Discriminación en la Comunidad LGBTQ de Filadelfia”, basándose en una audiencia pública que fue llevada a cabo el 25 de Octubre del 2016.

Líderes de la comunidad celebran la liberación de Óscar López Rivera

Con el indulto que otorgara el Presidente Obama a Óscar López Rivera, muchos miembros prominentes e la comunidad han expresado un sentimiento de alivio y alegría frente al anuncio de su clemencia.

Tras haber servido 35 años de una condena de 70 por varios cargos – incluida la conspiración, cargo que es aplicado a personas que han sido acusadas de conspirar para derrocar el gobierno de los Estados Unidos, muchos han expresado su alegría por la liberación de Óscar López Rivera.

City plans to reduce racism in Gayborhood: Bars under investigation

In reaction to several informal complaints about racism in Center City's Gayborhood including a viral video of iCandy's owner using a racial slur several time the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations (PCHR) released a report, “Inform Monitor Enforce: Addressing Racism and Discrimination in Philadelphia’s LGBTQ Community, based on a public hearing that was held on October 25th, 2016.

Aproximadamente 50.000 manifestantes salieron a la calle este fin de semana hacia la Marcha de Mujeres en Filadelfia, para protestar la presidencia de Donald Trump. En ciudades como Nueva York, Washington, Chicago y Filadelfia, hombres y mujeres protestaron con el objetivo de hacerse escuchar y al mismo tiempo unificarse contra un gobierno que, según ellos, hará retroceder al país.

An estimated 50,000 marchers came out this weekend for the Woman's March on Philadelphia to protest the Donald Trump presidency. In cities like New York, Washington, DC, Chicago, as well as Philadelphia, women protested with objective of making their voices heard as well as standing in solidarity against a government who in their views, will move the country backwards.

Kenney gana la batalla

A pesar de las amenazas de Comcast de que la ciudad sería demandada por la ley, el Alcalde Kenney ha compartido que firmará la legislación contra la discriminación salarial que fue introducida en el Ayuntamiento y que se encuentra bajo revisión.

“Podremos ser demandados o no”, dijo Kenney a una multitud a las afueras del Ayuntamiento, “pero el Consejo ha aprobado esta medida por voto unánime, y no veo una razón por la cual no deba firmarla”.

Kenney moves to ban conversion therapy

At a news conference today several legislators made a call for statewide legislation that would ban “conversion therapy” for minors.

In a joint effort with State Rep. Brian Sims, Mayor Kenney spoke with Dr. Gail Edelsohn, the newly-elected president of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society, about the form of therapy known to allegedly transform a person’s sexual orientation from homosexual to straight.

Kenney wins the war over wage discrimination bill

Despite threats from Comcast that the city would be sued for the bill, Mayor Kenney shared that he will sign the wage discrimination legislation that was passed by City Council and under law review.

"We may get sued, we may not," Kenney said to a crowd outside of City Hall. "But Council passed this measure by unanimous vote, and I see no reason why I shouldn't sign it."

Philadelphia DA was recently fine $62,000 for ethicfs violations and not reporting five sources of income and 89 gifts on city financial statements over six years. This is the first time that Williams has not only admitted to the allegations but also had public record solidifying the claims against him. With 5 counter bids for his seat in May, the scandal may not aid his campaign in the Spring. Richard Negrin, one of the headlining candidates against Williams, has expressed very solid concerns in regards to the Williams case.

La Comisión Anti-Drogas de Kenney se pone en marcha

El día miércoles, la Comisión Anti-Drogas del Alcalde Kenney se reunió por primera vez. Organizado para atacar el aumento de uso de drogas opiáceas, tanto de prescripción como ilegales, el equipo está conformado por miembros del consejo, organismos de seguridad y otros líderes comunitarios.

Este equipo de trabajo se ha estructurado en 5 subcomités, y ha adoptado la misión de organizar un plan ciudadano para prevenir el uso, la distribución, la sobredosis y la adicción a drogas de prescripción y a la heroína.
