Former U.S Congressan Chaka Fattah, one of the top politicians in the city of Philadelphia for many years, has been sentenced to spend a decade in prison and pay $614,000 in restitution to victims of corruption charges on which the longtime legislator was convicted last June.

Fattah was found guilty of dozens of counts of corruption stemming from charges filed in 2015 that came down from the FBI after an eight-year long investigation into the congressman’s financial dealings.

One year ago, Maj Toure founded Black Guns Matter,  a gun safety workshop in a North Philadelphia community center. Now he’s in the midst of a nationwide tour, teaching in schools about de-escalation techniques and local gun laws, taking any and all questions.

Toure, who grew up in Philadelphia, is a celebrity on Breitbart.com, he has read Mein Kampf three times, and feels like an heir to Pan-African awareness, as reported in The Philadelphia Citizen.

La presidenta de la Comisión de Parques y Recreación de Filadelfia, Kathryn Ott Lovell, presidió ayer junto al Concejal Bobby Henon y varios miembros de la comunidad, la ceremonia inaugural del American Legion Playground, en el noreste de Filadelfia,en motivo de la finalización de las obras de renovación recientes.

La modernización del parque es fruto de las continuadas quejas por parte de los habitantes de la ciudad, no solo del noreste, que lamentan la falta de espacio para que los niños puedan jugar y aprender.

Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell initiated a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Councilman Bobby Henon and community members at American Legion Playground in Northeast Philadelphia to celebrate the completion of recent renovations.

This is coming off the heels of several criticisms through the city, not just the Northeast, that children need places to play and learn in the area.

El centro puertorriqueño El Corazón Cultural del Barrio de Filadelfia (Pensilvania) inauguró hoy la ampliación de sus instalaciones para reivindicarse como movimiento de resistencia ante la intolerancia contra la comunidad latina, informa la agencia EFE.

La directora ejecutiva de Taller Puertorriqueño, Carmen Febo-San Miguel, también reivindicó el espacio en una entrevista con EFE como una "posición política" ante los ataques a las minorías, entre ellas los latina, surgidos recientemente en el país.

More than 100 "homeless" dogs in Philadelphia have been saved by the Penn Vet’s Shelter Dog Specialty Medical Treatment Project, a charity program that covers the expenses needed to treat the acute medical problems of shelter dogs in order to give them a better chance of being adopted.

Churches not only bring faith and civic value, but also an economic value, an "economic halo" that averages $1.5 million per congregation in Philadelphia, according to a recent report by Partners for Sacred Places and University of Pennsylvania professor Ram Cnaan.

That report, "How Catholic Places Serve Civic Purposes: The Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Economic 'Halo Effects,' " put the economic weight of the archdiocese and other Catholic entities in Southeastern Pennsylvania at $4.2 billion in fiscal 2015.

"So if Republicans want to convert 2016 into a longer-term triumph they too have lots of work to do", says Jeremy Nowak, president of J Nowak and Associates, a consulting firm specializing in social investment, public policy and strategic planning. According to Newak, urban education policy will be strategic for Trump to broaden his base in cities.
