Former attorney general Luisa Ortega, who fled her homeland this month after being accused of treason by Venezuela's leftist government, said Wednesday she had evidence implicating President Nicolas Maduro and other top officials in a massive bribery scandal orchestrated by Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht.

While Mexican government negotiators fight to save the North American Free Trade Agreement during talks in Washington, thousands of members of social and trade unions on Wednesday protested in Mexico City against the deal, claiming it marginalizes local farmers and hurts the country.

US Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with the presidents of Guatemala and Honduras and the vice president of El Salvador within the framework of the economic and security conference on Central America being held in Miami. The Alliance for Prosperity in the Northern Triangle was created in 2014 by the US, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador due to the wave of US arrivals of undocumented and unaccompanied Central American minors.
