If we look at trends in social networks, political issues in the United States usually refer to what the president said or stopped saying, who he attacked on Twitter or at what time he decides to get up every morning.

Social media are saturated with stories about Trump's favorite channel, his strange eating habits or even his mental stability. The paraphernalia of a president dedicated to entertaining keeps distracting us, while behind the scenes decisions are being made that will seriously affect the whole country.

During the last days of 2017, the Trump government has been in charge of tightening the screws to move forward with its migratory project, including the implementation of new rules for the 2020 census (which include the requirement to present an identity document and demonstrate the legal status of the voter), ICE's collaboration with private companies to persecute immigrants (one of the Motel 6 in Washington DC has collaborated with ICE to deliver guests whose names "sounded Latin" reaching up to 9,000 names with the agency immigration) and has kept his word by ending the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Salvadoran citizens, adding three Central American countries whose citizens will be left unprotected in the country.

In the same way, Trump has put a price on the solution for the Dreamers: 18,000 million dollars, which will be used for the construction of his wall.

And the matter goes further.

While everyone follows the scandal of Bannon's declarations and the development of the so-called Russiagate (perhaps with an ethereal hope that all this nightmare could end before 2020), Trump has given the green light to drilling enterprises in all US waters, despite warnings from the Pentagon and the coastal communities that would be directly affected.

The president doesn’t care if the Navy conducts military exercises on the coasts or if the sustenance of large coastal cities depends on fishing and tourism, the important thing is to exploit the economy; and for that, he prefers to see us all concentrated on another issue, before the protests and the communities begin their 2018 as they began in 2017: demonstrating on the street.

In the same way, few (or almost no one) has learned that natural disasters during 2017 have caused the country to spend up to 300 billion dollars, that hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria were just warnings of climate change and that, under the government of a denier president, the country has suffered more from floods and fires than from any other factor in recent months. However, it is more important if Mueller will interrogate the president than to really makes him accountable for the damage the country has suffered.

Between his chaotic decisions at home and in foreign policy, the difference is not that big.

Only a few days ago a report revealed that the Trump government has frozen funds of up to 125 million dollars for the United Nations agency that watches over the rights of the Palestinians.

At the same time, the New York Times published that his son-in-law's empire received up to $ 30 million in new investments from an Israeli firm: if this doesn’t raise the suspicion of abuse of power, I don’t know exactly what else will.

But, as the days go by, the Trump circus keeps freezing the looks under the tent, making sure we don’t realize what really happens.

The question now is, if we decide to see it and become aware of it, are we really ready to get down to work?
