One of the most important platforms of media coverage has been Twitter, especially during the Presidential Elections of 2016. The positive outcome of digital platforms like these is the immediate process of data and information through the “trending topics”. Such direct access to public opinion, with no intervention of a specific network, allows the few objective medias that are left to access the public opinion on a different way.

The two-party system is well exposed, especially in the porosity to public opinion. But the outcome and reactions towards the twist are wide and various, and where increasing since the beginning of the polls.

From celebrities to professional connoisseurs, everybody has an opinion not only of the reason why Donald J. Trump is now the new President of one of the most powerful countries in the world, but of the undiscovered reasons why people could actually refer to him as an immediate answer to problems in society that haven’t been addressed by previous administrations.

The common angle is the white vote and the distinction between “college educated white man” and the rest of the demographics. To the international public opinion, this is resumed into the most common asseveration in the web: “Americans have shown what they have always been: white, racists and ignorant”.

But other perspectives handle the possibility that was Clinton’s underutilization of her resources, as well as her lack of aggressiveness and her inability to seize the challenge, what lately tipped the balance towards the Republican candidate.

The presumptions and the musings among the future of America are in the headlines around the world. Trying to explain people how someone as unconventional as Donald Trump can actually seat in the Oval Office is a task taken by all of the media platforms.

But public reactions are not easily convinced, and the social media are now the mirror of the political outcome and the statistics that are being widely spread.

Such political and historical scenarios request time to be considered and understood. Only time will tell what the future of America will start to look like.
