Democrat Rep. Luis Gutierrez called out NBC and Comcast for allowing Donald Trump to host Saturday Night Live. The Republican presidential candidate is slated to host SNL on Nov. 7. He has hosted the show once before, in 2004.

Gutierrez penned a letter to Comcast President and CEO Brian Roberts, as well as to NBC President Stephen B. Burke explaining why he believes the comedy show should "dump Trump."

“Installing Trump as SNL host may be good for ratings, but it is a bigger deal than a cameo or a Tonight Show guest (appearance). And I’m calling you out,” Gutierrez stated during a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives

Standing next to a card with the hashtag #RacismIsntFunny, Gutierrez said that when public figures cross certain lines, they should lose their privileges to host TV shows, “at least until they have apologized for their unacceptable behavior.”

“To put Donald Trump on the air in American living rooms on a signature comedy show, on one of the most important national networks, after saying that Mexicans are rapists, drug dealers and criminals, that is a corporate blunder too big to be ignored,” Gutierrez said. “What if he said Black people were murderers, rapists and drug-dealers, would you still pitch skits with Donald Trump in some lighthearted banter?”
The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda has also formally asked NBC to rescind their invitation to the presidential candidate. Additionally, a petition was published at MoveOn.org asking NBC to boot Trump from the show. As of Thursday, the petition had 138,605 signatures.

Not everyone is appalled by Trump’s hosting gig, however. Republican Senator Marco Rubio said he believes it is excessive to remove the candidate as host of the show, The Hill reported.

“It’s a free country,” Rubio said on Fox News’ “Your World” with Neil Cavuto on Wednesday. “I don’t agree with everything that Donald Trump says, I don’t agree with everything the other side says, either. But if you don’t like it, don’t watch the show.”
