Due to inaction of the Senate, House Bill 2375 was not acted on and as a result, nearly 500 state workers in Pennsylvania will be out of jobs and given furlough during the holidays. Many say this is due to an unsympathetic Republican Senate reacting to Democrat Governor Tom Wolf.

However, those who are facing the layoffs were drastically hoping for an intervention before the date their notice takes effect, December 19th. Gov. Wolf’s administration plans to close unemployment compensation centers in Allentown, Atloona, and Lancaster, resulting in close to 520 layoffs according to NBC Philadelphia.

Those impacted by the layoff may receive worse assistance than others whom they served during their time working at the unemployment offices.

And while many sources have speculated this is a direct square off between the Wolf administration and Senate, there is no support going to the state employees or the citizens they serve.

Gov. Wolf was not available to discuss leave or care solutions for the employees affected by the layoffs.
