Five-year-old Sophie Cruz managed to reached Pope Francis on Wednesday and deliver a letter asking him to advocate for undocumented immigrants like her parents.

As the popemobile passed by National Mall, in Washington D.C., Sophie slipped past the barricade but was stopped by security guards. The pope then motioned for her to come over, and security obliged.

The pope kissed her cheek and took her envelope, which included a drawing she made and a letter in which various organizations urged him to advocate for immigrants.

Unlike her parents, Sophie and her sister are American citizens.

Read "The first words of Pope Francis in the United States were about immigration."

The drawing made by Sophie reads: “My friends and I love each other no matter our skin color.”
