Vermont joins states with same-day voter registration
Vermont's governor Peter Shumlin today signed into law Senate Bill 29 which makes same day voter registration an option throughout the state. With it, Vermont joins 14 states which permit residents to register the same day they go to vote.
The move is considered a part of a recent movement to simplify registration processes in order to increase voter engagement. Florida, Oklahoma and New Mexico all passed laws to allow online voter registration. Oregon, meanwhile, signed into law automatic voter registration with driver's license renewals.
