Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) announced today in a conference call to supporters and donors that he will run for the Republican nomination in the presidential elections of 2016.

"I feel uniquely qualified to not just make that argument, but to outline the policies that we need to have in order to achieve it," Rubio told the donors, according to The Associated Press.

Rubios is expected to make the announcement official this evening, during an event in the Freedom Tower in Miami.

Rubio will face Republican Senators Ted Cruz (TX) and Rand Paul (KY), who have already made their candidature official.

On the other side, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton announced Sunday her bid for the democratic nomination. Rubio portrayed Clinton as a candidate of the past and said the GOP has an opportunity to make it to the White House after eight years out of power.

"Just yesterday, we heard from a leader from yesterday who wants to take us back to yesterday, but I feel that this country has always been about tomorrow,” Rubio said. "The Republican Party, for the first time in a long time, has a chance in this election to be the party of the future.”
