CNN Money reported that preliminary numbers released by Nielsen ratings suggest that the Republican debate “was not just the most-watched primary debate in history -- it may have been twice as big as the previous record-holder.”

Early results suggest that the Fox News debate had a 16.0 household rating (or 16 percent of households tuning in) between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. This compares to the highest-rated Republican primary debates in 2011 and 2012 which were watched by approximately 5 percent of households, according to CNN Money.

Although these results might change once Nielsen completes its counting (so far these are raw results), the numbers still report a larger percentage than the most watched Democratic debate.

“The Democratic primary debates in 2008 were bigger, but none of those ever topped 10 percent,” CNN Money reported.
