Rep. Loretta Sánchez (D-CA) will run for Senate in 2016, according to the Sacramento Bee, and if elected she would become the first Latina senator in the history of the United States.
According to the news organization, Sánchez could make the announcement official today. If so, she would face California Attorney General Kamala Harris, for the seat which will be emptied by retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer.
Sánchez has represented California in Congress since 1997.
