Thinking of keeping your canine buddy outside in the extreme cold weather? You can’t.

A new ordinance, passed by City Council last year, requires Philadelphia residents to keep pets indoors during extreme cold.

When the city declares a Code Blue emergency (when the real-feel temperature is near or below 20 degrees Fahrenheit), dogs must be provided indoor shelter. If the pet owner does not comply, they can face fines up to $300.

Residents who need tips or help housing for their dogs should contact Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) at [email protected].

To report a dog kept outside in extreme cold weather, call ACCT Philly at 267-385-3800.
