The Senate Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday approved a bill that would allow border patrol agents to enter federal land, national parks and military properties along the Arizona Mexico border without obtaining a permit previously.
According to congressman John McCain, sponsor of the Arizona Borderlands Protection and Preservation Act, the bill would eliminate some of the restrictions that border patrol agents face while undocumented immigrants who cross the border illegally can go anywhere.
The bill, which will now be discussed in the Senate floor, faces opposition from democrats and environmental groups.
