At the opening of the Iowa Freedom Summit, Rep. Steve King started his remarks with an attack on DREAMers, Politico reported.
“We’re a great people. We have a vitality that’s unequaled on the planet. We come from every possible planet, uh, every possible continent,” King said. “They’re across the street, those people that come from the other planet,” referring to the DREAM Action Coalition, a group protesting the event on Saturday.
This is the second time King gives controversial remarks against the DREAMers. “On Tuesday the congressman criticized a DREAMer invited to sit in the first lady’s box at the State of the Union address as ‘a deportable,’” Politico reported. After facing criticism for using the term, King said he was being "kind and gentle."
"I decided I’m going to soften my language a little bit, and I did, and they’re still offended," King said in an interview with WHO, an Iowa radio station.
