Obama nominates Latina to run ICE
President Barack Obama nominated Sarah Saldaña, a U.S. attorney in the northern district of Texas, to run the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE), as reported by the White House this Wednesday.
According to the Wall Street Journal, which cites “people familiar with the discussion,” Obama would like to quickly move her confirmation in Congress this September.
If confirmed, she would be the first Latina woman to run the agency.

Born in 1951 in Corpus Christi, she begin her law career in private practice before becoming a federal prosecutor and a member of the Advisory Committee for Attorney General Eric Holder.
Obama also nominated Gilberto de Jesús, current Counselor to the Secretary at the Department of Transportation, for Chief Counsel for Small Business Advocacy.
The President also nominated Carlos Monje, Jr., current Senior Attorney in the Office of Communications Business Opportunities at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), for Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy at the Department of Transportation.
