Meet an Immigrant (Donald Trump Experiment)
While Donald Trump can’t seem to stop talking about Mexican immigrants (he released a three-page statement detailing the worst elements in Mexico), YouTube videographer Sergio Mejia launched the project “Meet an Immigrant (Donald Trump Experiment)” to find out if other Americans felt the same way about immigrants.
Mejia published the following description for the project:
“For a while I came up with this idea for a video, only I didn't know exactly what message I was trying to get across. I more just wanted to see who supported Donald Trump or not... and to be honest, for the first half while I was filming it, I still did not know exactly what it was I was trying to say. But as I was filming it, many of the people I met expressed their feeling and emotions towards this subject and it was then that I knew what the purpose of this video was and realized it had much more significant meaning. Please share this message with your friends and family.”
At the other end of the spectrum of the solidarity responses Mejia got in his experiment, Trump saw a need to reiterate his personal views on Mexican immigrants through an 881-word statement released on Monday.
"The largest suppliers of heroin, cocaine and other illicit drugs are Mexican cartels that arrange to have Mexican immigrants trying to cross the borders and smuggle in the drugs. The Border Patrol knows this," Trump wrote. "Likewise, tremendous infectious disease are pouring across the border. The United States has become a dumping ground for Mexico and, in fact, for many other parts of the world."
The billionaire also argued that his comments have been "deliberately distorted by the media."
"I don’t see how there is any room for misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the statement I made on June 16th during my Presidential announcement speech," Trump wrote."What can be simpler or more accurately stated? The Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States. They are, in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc."
Still, Trump claims he has nothing against Mexican people.
