CIS unveils interactive map of deportations through Secure Communities
The Center for Immigration Studies unveiled an interactive map that shows the number of immigrants who were removed by ICE in each county between October 2008 and February 2015, through the Secure Communities program.
In that time period, 406,441 immigrants were removed from the United States through the program. Los Angeles County, in California; Maricopa County, in Arizona; and Harris County, in Texas, were the three counties with the most removals.

The Secure Communities program allowed the exchange of information between local enforcement agencies and immigration agents. Although its objective was to identify criminal immigrants, the program was subject of criticism due to its indiscriminate reach and for leading to the deportation of people who did not represent a threat to public safety or have no criminal background.
The Secure Communities program was discontinued as part of President Obama's executive actions of November 2014, and replaced by the Priority Enforcement Program, which faces its own challenges.
