Americans are evenly split on whether the recent increase in deportations of undocumented immigrants is a good or bad thing.

 

According to a Pew Research survey, 45 percent of Americans said that the growing number of deportations is a 'good thing', and the same percent replied that it was a 'bad thing.' Nearly half of of African Americans (48 percent) view the increasing number of, deportations negatively, while 49 percent of whites, view is as a good thing. However, 60 percent of Latinos View the increase as a bad thing, while to 35 percent view it as good.

 

 

In terms of political parties, the opinion is fairly split as well. Over half of Republicans (55 percent) view the growing number of deportations as positive, while 53 percent of Democrats view it as negative. However, a majority of Republicans (64 percent) and Democrats (81 percent) back allowing undocumented immigrants to legally stay in the country, as long as they meet certain requirements.

 

Recently, the Obama administration has been under fire from immigration advocates, leaders and politicians alike to reduce the amount of deportations. The amount of undocumented immigrants that have been deported is close to two million.
