Florida Gov. Rick Scott will visit Philadelphia Feb. 23-24 to lead a business development mission, and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf is not happy about his tactics.

“Scott will meet with job creators and business leaders to discuss why they should move their business to Florida and buy a one-way ticket to the Sunshine State”, reads a press release issued by Scott’s press office.

"Unlike Governor Tom Wolf, we are focused on creating an environment where our families and job creators can succeed,” Scott said.

Here are his pointers:

  • Florida has no individual income tax, Pennsylvania’s income tax is 3.07 percent
  • Pennsylvania’s corporate income tax is nearly double Florida’s.

  • Pennsylvania has taxes on inheritance and capital stock, Florida doesn’t.

Jeff Sheridan, spokesman for Wolf, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that it’s all a “political stunt”.

“The stagnant economy we inherited is not our doing, yet he didn’t come under our predecessor,” Sheridan said.

Meanwhile, Keystone Progress is doing an online campaign for people across Pennsylvania to tell Scott: "Hands off our jobs!"

“Rather than trying to take jobs away from hard-working Pennsylvanians and undermine our state's economy, your energy and time would be better invested in actually creating new jobs in Florida,” reads the petition, which so far has been signed by more than 2,000 people.

They claim Scott is targeting Pennsylvania, but also New York, California, and Illinois — “states with higher wages, stronger safeguards for workers, better health insurance protections, and fairer taxes than Florida”.
