Just minutes after the polls closed, media networks deemed Tom Wolf the victor of the Pennsylvania gubernatorial race. When the vote counts eventually rolled in, Wolf had secured 54 percent of the votes and Corbett 45 percent. In Philadelphia, Corbett had just 12 percent of the votes.

Corbett is the first governor in three decades who lost the public's support and failed to proceed into a second term.

In Philadelphia, education was a major issue on voters minds after years of state-level funding cuts. Outside the city, voters considered the governor's handling of the Pennsylvania State University sexual abuse involving Jerry Sandusky. Issues in the state overall included taxing natural gas drilling and cuts to social services.

"We made tough decisions," Corbett said during his concession speech. "Obviously, people didn't like it."
