After years of budget cuts and particularly devastating staff cuts across the School District of Philadelphia this year, it's no secret that schools do not have all the resources that they need. But a new website launched by a new organization, The Caucus of Working Educators, encourages school teachers and staff to show the world the true state of Philadelphia schools. 

"Philly Teachers Sound the Alarm" allows educators to upload photos and anecdotes that illustrate conditions in their schools, from how much they spend on supplies out-of-pocket to the absence of essential personnel, like nurses and counselors. The mantra of the new site is that fighting for better working conditions isn't just about the teachers—it's about students' right to learn in a safe and healthy environment.

"The public has heard a few of your stories via the press," the organization wrote on their website, addressing potential posters. "But they have no idea how pervasive the problems really are."

A teacher from Feltonville School of Arts and Sciences posted a picture of a tissue box that serves as a substitute for a full-time counselor when students suffer loses and health problems. Another teacher from Feltonville  posted a picture of a child with his head down on the desk to show how teachers are forced to respond to those who feel ill without a school nurse. A nurse from Lincoln High School posted about how students cannot access restrooms and resort to using the nurses office toilet reserved for those with medical conditions. 

While those who speak out face retribution from their employers, the website operates under the principle of solidarity to stand against negligent conditions and demand a better environment for Philadelphia's children.
