Mayor Jim Kenney's plan to expand early education will receive "significant" backing from a philanthropic organization on Tuesday.

The William Penn Foundation plans to make the announcement tomorrow at the Rising Stars APM Preschool Center at 12:30 p.m. No dollar amount was listed in the news release.

The money will be put into the Fund for Quality, a local initiative that provides capital for early childhood education in Philadelphia, particularly for low-income families. The William Penn Foundation jumpstarted the fund with an initial $4.6 million grant in 2014.

A representative also said that the foundation will be calling for more private investment into the fund.

In 2014, the foundation provided over $21 million in education grants alone. Check out the organization's interactive annual report for a fuller picture.
