Turkey blocks social media.

The Turkish government banned YouTube on Thursday, March 27 after blocking Twitter earlier this week.

The move was made after an audio recording of Turkish officials discussing a plan to wage war against Syria was leaked.

The conversation was allegedly between two top government officials, Turkey's Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoğlu and Security Chief, Hakan Fida.

Both men allegedly discussed a plan to stage attacks on Turkey from Syria to rationalize a counterattack and start a war.

According to RT News, Davutoğlu said that Turkey's Prime Minister, Tayyip Erdoğan, sees any attack as an opportunity to increase Turkish presence in Syria, which is supported by the anti-Assad rebels.

Hakan then suggests staging a fake attack would give Turkey a reason to strike back.

Recently, Syrian rebels seized a northwestern town near the Turkey border.  Activists say the seize was in support of Syrian President Bashar Assad. The rebels who captured the town have strong links to Al Qaeda. This event aided to the conflict between Turkey and Syria.

The Foreign Ministry issued a written response to the allegations. In the statement, the ministry called the leak a "wretched attack" on national security and claimed the recording was "partially manipulated."

"These treacherous gangs are the enemies of our state and people. The perpetrators of this attack are targeting the security of our state. They will be handed over to justice to be given the heaviest penalty," the Ministry stated in its release.

Earlier this week, a Turkish court overruled the ban on Twitter but access to the website is still blocked.
