“The United States will not be a migrant camp, and it will not be a refugee holding facility,” Donald Trump said on Monday at the White House.

No, it won’t, because what the president prefers is for the nation to become a concentration camp and a gigantic and cruel orphanage.

“It won’t be,” he added in a fit of mendacious self-righteousness. “You look at what’s happening in Europe, you look at what’s happening in other places, we can’t allow that to happen to the United States.”

Of course, people in the U.S. are used to the shameless lies of the “leader of the free world,” the man who has made of child snatching his administration’s immigration policy. By using Germany as an example of the supposed horrors taking place in Europe, Trump didn’t disappoint those who wondered what new falsity he would utter this time.

“Crime in Germany is way up. Big mistake made all over Europe in allowing millions of people in who have so strongly and violently changed their culture!” Trump tweeted on Monday. Scary, right? Except that the aging former TV actor was lying through his teeth. As The New York Times noted, crime statistics for 2017 showed the lowest level of crime in Germany in 25 years. Another presidential lie? Oh, well, and what else is new?

Something is certain, Trump, who famously referred to immigrants as animals, has turned Washington into a wild zoo of racist bureaucrats, white supremacists, shameless sycophants and unprincipled pseudo-patriots.

It’s not easy to determine to which of those species Ann Coulter belongs, one of the most disgusting of Trump’s defenders. Usually referred to as a “conservative commentator”, in reality she is a shameless bigot and liar whose opinions are so extreme than under any other administration they would be laughable.  Under Trump, with whom she shares many shameful traits, Coulter, sort of a real-life Cruella de Vil, has become mainstream.

“I would also say one other thing, these child actors weeping and crying on all the other networks 24/7 right now: do not fall for it, Mr. President,” she said, on Fox News unbelievably referring to the traumatized children taken from their parents at the border. “I get very nervous about the president getting his news from TV. …  They’re given scripts to read by liberals, according to the New Yorker. Don’t fall for the actor children.”

Aside from the fact that no one knows what is the New Yorker article she mentioned, Coulter has to be a special kind of twisted, morally defunct human being to claim the children Trump has ordered torn from their parents and kept in cages – some as young as 18 months --are “actor children.” For the everlasting shame of this country, these are Trump’s people.

Coulter is not the only one, of course. The cast of repulsive, callous characters includes Attorney General Jeff Sessions, an individual so cynical that he tried to justify this inhuman “zero-tolerance” policy as ordained by God himself; and there is Stephen Miller, the strange white supremacist ideologue identified as the Trump advisor who convinced him to go ahead with the child snatching policy; and chief of staff John Kelly who nonchalantly said the children separated from their parents would be placed in foster homes or “whatever,” and many, many others.

This is what this government has become, and this is what Trump and his freak show are attempting to turn the country into. For Washington to indignantly criticize other nations for their lack of human rights, has become a sick joke.

As the cruel, racist and inhumane zero-tolerance policy has made even clearer, it would be easier to extract water from a stone than to find any compassion, justice or common decency in this administration.
