[OP-ED]: The end is coming!

Yes, it is. And not a moment too soon.

No, not the end of the world, mind you, but of the mud fest that has passed for a presidential campaign this time around. Hopefully, after November 8, with the election of President Hillary Clinton, the American people will finally be spared Donald Trump’s marathon of insults and lies; his hate-filled speeches demonizing immigrants, Latinos, Muslims, and blacks, and the flood of revelations by no less than 10 women who have been victims of his thuggish and predatory behavior.

Yet, to make sure this will be the outcome, no one can sit this election out, everybody –I repeat, everybody--must vote against the dangerous and hateful GOP nominee.

The absurdity has reached a point in which both Trump and Clinton have begun to talk as if it was not the campaign but the world itself what was about to end. In weird, medieval-sounding messages, both have presented themselves as humanity’s only hope.

“As I’ve told people,” Clinton said to the New York Times’ Mark Leibovich, “I’m the last thing standing between you and the apocalypse.”

Well, no, Hillary, don’t go that far. Then again, there is no doubt that it would be a major disaster if the racist, misogynist, ignorant and mendacious GOP standard bearer would somehow manage to get to the White House.

Yet Trump, ever the snake oil salesman, goes even further back into the Dark Ages. Back in August, trying to convince voters that no one can “save” the nation except his obnoxious, white-supremacist self, a messianic Trump, all fire and brimstone, declared about his opponent: “She is the devil.” It didn’t work.

Now that the smell of defeat is becoming unbearable, Trump doesn’t blame his lack of decency and his deceitful ways for his campaign’s debacle. Consistent with his inflated ego, the creepy clown affirms it is due to a global conspiracy by the international elite who “plot the destruction of U.S. sovereignty in order to enrich these global financial powers, [Clinton’s] special-interest friends and her donors.”

The reason for such conspiracy is that, according to him, they are afraid of the great patriot Donald Trump who “represents a true existential threat” to the establishment and the “international elite.”

C’mon Donald, Clinton might be no saint, but compared to your piggish behavior and the repugnant groping and grabbing habits you proudly bragged about in the 2005 tape, the former first lady looks like definite canonization material.

Yet, one has to admire the gall of someone who, surrounded by hypocrites and demagogues like “Christian conservative” Mike Pence and attack dog Rudy Giuliani, and having made hate the centerpiece of his campaign, and lying and flip-flopping his modus operandi, still proclaims with a straight face he is the only one that can “make America great again.”

For Latinos --and every sane person in the U.S.-- the choice could not be clearer. But as Hillary told Ellen DeGeneres a few days ago, “I don't want anybody to think this election's over, because it's been so unpredictable up until now that I’m not taking anything for granted.”

No one should. The creepy clown is lurking on the horizon, and everybody must vote to send him crawling back to Mar-a-Lago or wherever the hell he came from.
