You will decide so much on May 19th.
Mayoral candidates
Who will be the Democratic candidate for mayor? If you still aren’t sure who you are voting for? Lynne Abraham, Nelson Díaz, Jim Kenney, Doug Oliver and Anthony Williams all wrote special columns addressing you — the AL DÍA audience.
City Council candidates
We have a quick pick-up guide of who is running here (in Spanish only, for now).
Judge candidates
The Philadelphia Bar Association’s rating of the judges appears here. (You can also read our interview with Mia Roberts Perez, a candidate for the Court of Common Pleas, here.)
Questions on the ballot
Four questions will appear for a vote on the ballot — all of them proposed changes to the charter.
#1 (Bill No. 140514-A) “Shall The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter be amended to call upon the Pennsylvania General Assembly and the Governor to abolish the School Reform Commission and return local control of Philadelphia’s schools?”
#2 (Bill No. 140230) “Shall The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter be amended to provide for the creation of a Commission for Women to be charged with promoting civic, educational and economic policies for women and providing ad- vice and recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on policies and programs that advance equal rights and opportunities for women in the City?”
#3 (Bill No. 140747) “Shall The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter be amended to require all City agencies to prepare, and comply with, plans to promote access to City services, compliance with City law and ease of contact with, and participation within, City government for people with limited English proficiency?” (Read more about this proposal here.)
#4 (Bill No. 150005) “Shall the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter be amended to provide for the creation, appointment, powers and duties of an independent Commission on Universal Pre-Kindergarten which would recommend an implementation and funding plan for achieving universal high quality pre-kindergarten for three- and four-year olds in Philadelphia without taking away funds used for existing education?”
