It's not easy to rent in suburban Colorado if you're Latino. In fact, it could be difficult to rent anywhere, as housing discrimination persists throughout the United States.

A recent report by the Denver Metro Fair Housing Center found that Latinos encountered discrimination while searching for housing in more than 90 percent of cases. African Americans were also likely to experience housing discrimination 67 percent of the time.

Denver isn't the only case. Last year, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development released a report that detail discrimination against racial and ethnic groups in Philadelphia and across the country. The study tested thousands in 28 metropolitan areas by having trained individuals go through the same process with the same housing provider and record the outcome.

The results revealed that Latinos were more likely to be told that no units were available than white renters. The housing providers were also more likely to hide information about additional units in the case of a Latino renter.

In Philadelphia, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reported that white renters were shown more favoritism over equally-qualified African American renters by 18 percentage points.
