Watch out, America. The English are expanding their language-skills to include Spanish, French, German and possibly Mandarin Chinese.

England has made language-learning a compulsory aspect of primary education while the U.S. lags behind in the global market.

Starting in September 2014, students as young as 7 years old will learn French, Spanish or German, while additional language classes are encouraged by the government.

As businesses expand across the globe and technology eases international collaboration, language skills are becoming more vital.

Yet less than one in five Americans can speak a language other than English, and even fewer are fully bilingual. America has no national language-learning requirement for any age level.
