Sonia Sotomayor will drop the ball in 2014--not her job performance, but the massive sphere that will mark the new year.

The U.S. Supreme Court Justice and New York City native was selected by the Times Square Alliance to press the button that will lower the crystal ball in Midtown Manhattan, a simple role that has in past years been filled by former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Muhammad Ali.

Not only will a influential Latina reign in 2014, but so will hundreds of bikers. This year's ball will be powered with energy from stationary bikes set up this past weekend around Manhattan. Energy from peddlers has been stored in batteries to light the bulbs that will brighten Times Square tomorrow night.
