For their exceptional depiction and celebration of the Latino experience in children and young adults literature, Meg Medina and Yuyi Morales have been announced as the winners of this year's Pura Belpré Award.

Meg Medina won the Author Award for her book Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass, a young adults book about a Latina teen who is bullied at her new school and how she must overcome it.

The Illustrator Award was given to Yuyi Morales for her illustrations and writing of Niño Wrestles the World, a young adults book about a boy who fights icons from Mexican popular culture in the lucha libre ring.

The Honorable Mentions include Margarita Engle for The Lightning Dreamer: Cuba's Greatest Abolitionist; Matt de la Peňa for The Living; Duncan Tonatiuh for Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote: A Migrant's Tale; Angela Dominguez for Maria Had a Little Llama / María Tenía una Llamita and Rafael Lopez for Tito Puente: Mambo King / Rey del Mambo.
