When it comes to sharing images in social media, Latinos and Blacks prefer Instagram and whites prefer Pinterest, according to a survey conducted by Pew Research Center published Wednesday.

34 percent of Latinos and 38 percent of Blacks who are online use Instagram, compared to only 21 percent of whites.

By contrast, 32 percent of whites use Pinterest, compared with 21 percent of Latinos and just 12 percent of Blacks.

On the other hand, more than half (53 percent) of people ages 18 to 29 use Instagram, compared with 25 percent of those ages 30 to 49; 11 percent of those ages 50 to 64, and 6 percent of those 65 and older.

“This is worth noting when looking at social media use by race and ethnicity since Latinos are significantly younger than other groups”, reads the Pew report.

The median age of Latinos is 27 compared with 33 for Blacks, and 42  for whites.

In other findings, Facebook is the most widely used platform regardless of race or ethnicity, with 71 percent of adults using it.

Twitter has a more equal distribution. About one-in-four Latinos and Blacks use the site, along with 21 percent of whites.
