Comcast’s NBCUniversal will spend over $250 million on a new headquarters for its Spanish-language network, Telemundo.

The new building, to be located in Miami-Dade County, will not only house NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises’ corporate offices and studios but it will also be the home to NBC Universo and the company’s Digital Media and Emerging Business operations.

Executives broke ground on the facility Tuesday. The the 450,000 sq. ft. complex will be built over 21 acres of land near the Florida Turnpike. Comcast Senior Executive Vice President David Cohen was also present at the event today.

“Our investment in this technologically advanced building is the latest example of our enthusiasm for NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, its bright future, and our strong commitment to Florida,” said Cohen in a statement. “As the country’s largest provider of Spanish-language programming, we are excited about the development of this new headquarters and the opportunities it will provide as we further build on our strong commitment to the Hispanic community nationwide.”

Comcast said the building will create around 3,000 construction jobs and bring an estimated $400 million in sales to south Florida region. After construction, the company said the building will be initially run by a staff of 1,100 people with plans to grow the staff by at least 200 more.

In a blog post, Telemundo chairman Cesar Conde said this new building plus the acquiring of Spanish-language broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup through 2026 is a “testament” to Comcast’s commitment to “the potential of the Hispanic market and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.”
