In Philadelphia, the line stretched along Walnut Street and around the corner up 17th as customers waited through the chilly early morning for a chance to get through the doors of the Apple store and in the presence of the company's latest model — the iPhone 6.

Apple's doors opened at 8 a.m., but the line remained relentless. A dozen customers even waited outside the Market Street Verizon store to take their chances. The new phone is larger than previous models with higher resolution, better processing speeds and better battery life, according to Apple. However, not everyone in line was in it for a chance to play with the new device and its features.

"I'm most excited to get my iPhones — and put them on Ebay and resell them for a few thousand dollars," Alexis Fisher, a Septa worker from New Jersey, said. "I have a nice HTC phone."

Fisher said that she passed the Walnut Street apple store at 5:30 a.m. — yesterday. That's when she saw the first customer waiting in line.

"I had to run home back to New Jersey," Fisher said. With her lawn chair folded under her arm, she had progressed halfway up Walnut since 7 p.m.

More than 4 million people have pre-ordered the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 since last Friday. When the iPhone 5S and 5C were released, Apple sold 9 million in one weekend. The phones are selling for around $200 to $300 in the U.S. without a contract. That's a lot cheaper than in other parts of the world.

Australian Jack Cooksey was the first to buy his iPhone in the Perth Apple Store, dropping $500 USD before accidentally dropping the device itself. Channel 9 news, which recorded the whole debacle, reported that neither the phone nor Cooksey were harmed.
