Hiroshi Ishiguro, a professor from Osaka University debuted female robots that look so real, you can easily mistake them for mannequins seen in department window displays.

Ishiguro, who is also a robotics expert, showed off his newest creations in a press conference at a Tokyo museum, according to the Associated Press. The robots which are remote controlled can blink, smile, nod, move their hands, and speak with the ability to ask and answer questions. They can also switch from male to female voices.

The life-sized androids are meant for research on how people interact with robots and what differentiates the person from the machine, according to AP. "Making androids is about exploring what it means to be human," Ishiguro said. "Examining the question of what is emotion, what is awareness, what is thinking."

During a live demonstration, one of the robots asked "Professor, why did you create me?" Ishiguro then proceeded to answer.
