Tech giants like Google, Apple and Samsung have recently announced initiatives to expand their tools and devices into five sectors you may not expect in an effort to fully incorporate digital tools into every day life.

1. Health

At the Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) this week, Apple plans to reveal a health app to monitor user heart rate, sleep patterns and daily fitness. Samsung has also made efforts to move into the health sector with initiatives like Life Care, which allows users to monitor blood sugar and blood pressure as well as sleep cycles and exercise regimes.

2. Education

Just a week after Reading Rainbow successfully raise $1 million in one day to re-brand and re-define itself in the digital age, Google premiered its own line of education tools, including an invite-only classroom app that would connect teachers and students online, tracking grades and assignments, as well as communication and testing tools.

3. Home appliances

Apple plans to also introduce more smart home devices to allow users to control light, temperature and even security in their home from their smartphone. The company has long been marketing smart devices for entertainment, like televisions and sound-systems, but the new move could launch a new line of products. Earlier this year, Google purchased Nest, a company that designs smartphone-controlled alarms for homes and businesses.

4. Infrastructure

On Sunday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Google is planning to spend $1 billion to launch 180 satellites into orbit in an effort to expand internet access to areas without it. Google has also planned expansion for Fiber, its faster-than-broadband wired internet service, into dozens of cities across the country. So far, just three cities have access to the service and the company has not announced expansion into the Northeast.

5. Transportation

A recently announced Google partnership with Uber would merge transportation mapping with actual transportation. The company has also been developing its own vehicle — a driverless car.
