Instagram finally added its most requested feature
Earlier this week, Instagram announced on their blog that they will finally give their users the option of adding more than one account. For those not in the know, Facebook and a handful of other social media sites only allow the user to operate one account at a time. Facebook does allow you to create “pages” and switch between them, but as far as profile pages that option is still nonexistent.
Meanwhile, Twitter has allowed the use of multiple accounts for some time now.
Up until now, Instagram users would have to log out of their one account and then log back in if they wished to use another. A real pain in the age of high-speed tech, especially for many users who constantly switch between between business in personal accounts.
According to Forbes.com, starting with app version 7.15 for both Android and iOS, it will be possible to add up to five additional Instagram accounts.
To add an additional account, go to profile settings. From there, tap your username at the top of your profile to switch between accounts. Once you have multiple accounts added, you’ll see your profile photo appear in places throughout the app so you can always tell which one you’re using at the moment.
To switch between your accounts, go back to your profile and tap on your user name at the top left to bring up a menu of installed accounts. Select the one you wish to use and the app will switch accounts. You also have the option of adding a new account directly from this menu.
Because of this new feature, I suspect that Instagram will have a new surge in users and activity before the week is out. If only Twitter could get their act together and find new ways to make their site engaging. Perhaps scrapping the plans to exceed their 140 character limit and bringing back favoriting content with stars.
