Philly recognized globally for festivals and events
The City of Philadelphia was recently recognized as one of the 2014 recipients of the IFEA World Festival & Event City Award.
The award was created by the International Festival & Events Association (IFEA) and presented by VISA, to honor “the best in community leadership and festival and event partnerships around the world.”
“Philadelphia is a world-class city and, as such, we are fast becoming a destination to host big events,” said Mayor Michael Nutter. “We have great facilities, amenities and the right team of City officials and employees in place to ensure that events held in Philadelphia run efficiently, effectively and safely.”
The other cities that were honored with 2014 IFEA World Festival & Event City Award include Dublin, Ohio; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Newcastle, Australia; São Paulo, Brazil; and Sydney, Australia.
“Through this special award the IFEA is pleased to recognize and fly the flag of those cities and markets who have worked, through concerted efforts, to provide an environment conducive to successful festivals and events,” the award's website stated.
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Philadelphia Flower Show was also recognized with 17 awards, including the Grand Pinnacle Gold Award for the world’s best event.
