Philly celebrates multiculturalism at Penn's Landing

With the season’s openings of Spruce Street Harbor Park, the new Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, Morgan’s Pier (this summer's chef is Top Chef winner Nicholas Elmi) Festival Pier, and so much more, the Delaware Riverfront Waterfront and Penn’s Landing is happening place this summer.

Islamic Heritage Festival

June 13

The Islamic Heritage Festival begins with the Unity in Diversity Parade throughout the city and ends at the Great Plaza Penn's Landing. After the parade, the 22nd Annual Islamic Heritage Festival begins, featuring family-friendly games, entertainment, speakers, a health & wellness fair, and a global open market bazaar. More info.

 

Portuguese Heritage Festival

June 21

The 21st annual Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Festival celebrates Portuguese culture by featuring various traditional foods and Portuguese wine, revolutionary art, folklore dance groups, international music and the traditional blessing of the fleet aboard the Tall Ship Gazela. More info.

Hispanic Fiesta

July 11-12

The Hispanic Fiesta, hosted by Concilio, is one of the most popular events in the PECO Multicultural Series, drawing up to 15,000 people each day. The festival celebrates various Latino cultures and communities through music, dance, entertainment, ethnic foods, and crafts. Saturday’s live performance headliner is Maffio, while Charlie Cruz y Su Orquesta headlines Sunday. More info.

 

ACANA Festival

August 2

The African Cultural Alliance of North America Inc. (ACANA) hosts an African Festival that features a range of African entertainment such as traditional dance performances, modern Afropop and Reggae musical performances, African food, as well as traditional and modern clothing, arts, and crafts vendors. Festival of India

August 15

The Council of Indian Organizations (CIO) of Greater Philadelphia presents the Festival of India each year to celebrate India's Independence Day and the local Indian-American community. This festival features art, music, dance, and food. More info.

 

Caribbean Festival

August 16

The 29th annual Caribbean Festival celebrates culture, music and food from 14 Caribbean islands and raises scholarship funds for college students of Caribbean descent. More info.

Mexican Independence Day Festival

September 13

The Mexican Cultural Center and the Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia hosts the annual Mexican Independence Day Festival, which is the biggest event celebrating the Independence of Mexico in the region, with approximately 11,000 attendees. The festival features music, food, dancing, and more family fun. More info.

 

Brazilian Day

September 20

Brazilian Day Philadelphia celebrates Brazilian Independence Day and Brazilian culture with authentic traditional foods, vendors, dance performances of Samba, Forro, Pagode, Capoeira, Samba-Reggae and more. More info.
