An investigative grand jury concluded that there is no evidence that Darrin Manning was seriously injured by the female police officer who frisked him in January, according to District Attorney Seth Williams.
Manning alleged that police had stopped and assaulted him without cause at Broad Street and Girard Avenue when the teen was on his way to basketball practice with peers. After held in a cell, the teen was checked into Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where doctors suspected that his testicle was ruptured and recommended emergency surgery. During surgery, doctors discovered that the injury was a blood clot.
Manning faced felony and misdemeanor charges until an agreement was reached with the District Attorney’s office and the charges were dropped.
The grand jury exonerated the Philadelphia police officer accused of brutality.
