Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) will meet with residents in each district tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 4, for part of the National Night Out event. The individual meetups are open to the public as part of a nationwide effort to create positive forum for community-police engagement.

“It’s a chance for people to really interact,” Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told CBS3 earlier this week. “Of course, you also have the cookouts and that sort of thing.”

Ramsey, who attended nine similar events during his time in Washington D.C., encouraged Philadelphians to regularly connect with their police departments.

“We need to be engaged 365 days a year because that’s the only way we really have an impact on communities,” he said. “Get involved, stay involved. Take ownership of some of the issues and problems and work with us. A lot of positive things will happen as a result of that.”

You can find the location and other details about the meetup in your district on the Philly Police Blog.
