Just days after thousands gathered outside the School District of Philadelphia to condemn the School Reform Commission's cancelation of the teachers' union contract, a Pennsylvania Common Pleas Court approved the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers' request for an injunction against the commission's plan to impose new health care costs on 11,000 educators starting Dec. 15.
Judge Nina Wright Padilla ruled that the SRC's plan would be put on hold until another legal matter is settled — whether the commission had the right to abolish the contract.
District spokesman Fernando Gallard told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the SRC would appeal Padilla's decision to the Commonwealth Court.
