The American Red Cross is urging eligible donors to give blood this month to help make sure there is a sufficient blood supply throughout the summer.

Summer activities, such as vacations, cause the frequency of blood donations to go down. However, blood donations are still needed.

To encourage people to donate around Independence Day, those who donate blood during July 2-6 will receive a Red Cross embroidered hat (while supplies last).

Donors of all blood types – especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative – are needed. Eligibility requirements can be found here.

There are two blood donations centers in Philadelphia: the Philadelphia Donor Center at 700 Spring Garden St. and the Northeast Philadelphia Donor Center at 1401 Rhawn St.

There is also many upcoming blood donation drives happening throughout the city during the month of July:

7/1/2015: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Wawa Bartram Avenue, 8220 W. Bartram Avenue

7/1/2015: 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., Charter Court Apartments, 5450 Wissahickon Avenue

7/2/2015: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Philadelphia Municipal Workers 1401, 1401 John F. Kennedy Boulevard
