Rich Negrin was just named vice president of regulatory policy and strategy at Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), the largest electric utility in the entire state of Illinois.

Negrin will lead development of ComEd's regulatory policies and strategies, and will also be responsible for rate strategies, regulatory policy outcomes, retail tariffs, processing of customer complaints, engagement with the Illinois Commerce Commission, regulatory compliance and alignment with other Exelon energy delivery companies.

The goal of his work will be to advance the role of the smart grid in providing resilient, clean and affordable energy for ComEd's customers and communities.

“Rich is a proven leader with more than 20 years of experience working on complex issues in the public, private and non-profit sectors,” Verónica Gómez, senior vice president of regulatory and energy policy and general counsel at ComEd, said in a press release. “His track record as an innovator and skilled strategist in city government, law firms and corporate environments prepare him well to help advance ComEd’s policy goals.”

Prior to joining ComEd, Negrin had most recently served as partner and chair of the general counsel advisory group at the Obermayer, Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel law firm. While there, he provided strategic legal counsel to large corporations and emerging businesses on matters that ranged from government relations and regulatory to complex litigation. Before that, Negrin spent six years as the city managing director and deputy mayor of the City of Philadelphia.

Negrin has also held positions as the general counsel and vice president of ARAMARK Healthcare and ARAMARK Correctional, and also vice president and associate general counsel of ARAMARK Corp.

His career started when he was a prosecutor in the Philadelphia district attorney's office, where he subsequently spent five years as a litigator at the Morgan, Lewis & Bockius law firm.

Negrin earned his bachelor's degree from Wagner College and his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law. The Hispanic National Bar Association previously named him National Latino Lawyer of the Year. Negrin also had a brief career with the National Football League, signing contracts with the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.
