AL DÍA News stirred up quite a commotion on Twitter by mistakenly announcing that Judge Nelson Díaz was dropping out of the mayoral race, when in fact Ken Trujillo had just announced he would no longer pursue the office of Mayor of Philadelphia.
Breaking? @ALDIANews says Nelson Diaz has ALSO dropped out of the mayor's race... https://t.co/Fy14cr2a2j

Disculpas a todos los que leyeron en @ALDIANews que era Nelson Díaz y no Ken Trujillo quien abandonaba la carrera https://t.co/jRuWnpTIfF

We got in touch with Díaz’s campaign manager Ian Rivera, to apologize of course. “We are still in the race, in it to win it. Our thoughts are with Mr. Trujillo’s family and Judge Díaz hopes it is not a serious matter,” Rivera said.
Trujillo announced he was leaving the race due to family matters. "It is with great regret that I announce today I will no longer pursue the office of Mayor of Philadelphia. My wife, daughter and I are greatly saddened by this decision, but there are family matters that require my full attention. I am announcing this now because I believe strongly that we must leave the door open for another candidate to enter this race. Philadelphia needs someone who has the skills and values to put Philadelphia first, and I very much hope voters will have such an option. I am grateful for the extraordinary support I've received, and it is my sincerest regret that I will not be able to pursue this campaign to the end."
A few hours later Díaz published the following response:
"First, I would like to express that my deepest thoughts and prayers are with Ken Trujillo and his family. I just called Ken to offer my wish that his family issues are not too serious and offer any assistance I can give." Díaz said. "I remain a candidate for mayor. I am in and I am in to win. This race is not about me or any other candidate for political office, it is about the future of our city and I look forward to a spirited debate on the issues with the remaining candidates."
State Senator Anthony Williams said “Ken Trujillo is a good man with a record of public service and a deep commitment to the city of Philadelphia. Vigorous debate over serious issues benefits the people of Philadelphia and Ken’s energy will be missed. I wish him and his family the best.”
Lynne Abraham just released the following statement: “We are very sorry to hear that the reasons for Ken's withdrawing are family related, and we understand that family comes first. We were looking forward to a spirited, issues-oriented campaign; now we wish Ken and his family the very best."
