Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that in fact he won the popular vote in the general election “if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally”. His claims, unfunded, came one day after Hillary Clinton's campaign said it would participate in a recount effort undertaken in Wisconsin.
“In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally,” Mr. Trump wrote Sunday afternoon, in a series of posts on Twitter all day long. Michigan and Pennsylvania , pushed by the Green Party candidate, Jill Stein, have also pushed for a recount in the popular vote. Stein has raised more than $6m online to fund such efforts. On Saturday, Trump attacked Stein, using Twitter to say: “The Green Party scam to fill up their coffers by asking for impossible recounts is now being joined by the badly defeated [and] demoralized Dems.”
As reported on Sunday in The New York Times.
