Small businesses are boasting around the nation, but Philadelphia is still far behind the big numbers, compared to other metro regions in the East Coast, like New York, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. According to recent data from the U.S. Census by American City Business Journals, between 2010 and 2014, Philadelphia added 412 new small businesses, rising just 0.3 percent. In Washington DC, the growth rate was 4.0 percent, Boston was 2.8 percent and Baltimore's was 1.5 percent.

In Washington DC, the growth rate was 4.0 percent, Boston was 2.8 percent and Baltimore's was 1.5 percent. The best grounds for small businesses are definitilely in the South and Southwest, Texas and Florida. As reported today in the Philadelphia Business Journal
