Earlier this week, we mused about Jibo, the non-mobile robot helper currently in a crowd-funding campaign. Now prepare yourself for the next generation of non-mobile humans because this just became a thing — fan bots. As you may have guessed, these are robots who will attend a sports game and cheer for you.

The Hanwha Eagles baseball team in South Korea is using the bots to ramp up excitement among fans and players who rarely win. The stiff, mannequin-like robots “sit” in a designated section with uploaded pictures of the real fans on their creepy screen-faces, cheering and awkwardly lifting marquee signs to display fan’s messages, controlled from a mobile phone.

Perhaps the Phillies should consider such an investment to boost morale during this dismal season. Who knows — maybe proxy robot fans would be less intimidating to one of the few Major League Baseball teams with a home turf disadvantage.
