If you like dogs, don’t be mean to their owner!

Dogs do not like people who are mean to their owners and will snub them, according to a study by Japanese researchers.

The study also found that dogs will also refuse food offered by people who were mean to their owners.

Researchers at Kyoto University tested three groups of 18 dogs. The test used role playing, in which the owners needed to open a box.

In all three groups, two people, that were unknown to the dog, accompanied the owner. In the first group, the owner asked for help and one person refused to help. In the second group, the owner asked for help and received it from one person. In both groups, the third person neither helped or refused to help. In the third group, neither person interacted with the dog's owner.

After witnessing the box-opening situation, the dog was offered food by the two people who had accompanied their owner. The study found that the dogs were more likely to ignore food offered by people who had refused to help their owner than by people who stayed neutral.

The study will be published in the science journal "Animal Behaviour" later this month.
